Michael Jackson is to perform from beyond the grave in a special 3-D tribute at this year’s Grammy Awards.

A host of singers including Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, Smokey Robinson and Usher will pay tribute to the late icon alongside a 3-D mini movie for »Earth Song», created by Jackson before his death in June.

The song and the movie, about the future of the planet, were intended to be the focus point of Jackson»s planned series of 50 This is It London residency at the O2 Arena.

“It was one of the most important portions of the concert tour to Michael, and when Michael saw the film for the first time at his last rehearsal, there were tears in his eyes,” said Grammy co-executive producer Ken Ehrlich.

The performers will now sing along with a recording of Michael’s vocals and the never-before-seen video, while sets of 3-D glasses will be distributed across America for TV viewers.

The footage is a warning about the dangers of global warming and shows a young girl wandering in a forest, which is then destroyed.

“There are these incredible images of the beauties of nature, and then they are seen through the eyes of a little girl,” said Ken.

“That girl falls asleep and when she wakes up she is witness to the destruction of nature. It’s all about questioning what our values are.

“It was pretty emotional for him. Afterwards he said to me the song and that piece was as important to him as anything else in the show.”

Michael, who died last June aged 50, watched the 3-D clip with Ken shortly before his death.

The King of Pop will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to music at the Grammys.
